Jan 1, 2012 Hexavelent ChromiumChromium is a carcinogen that occurs naturally and is a by-product of industrial processes......even an inadvertent by-product of at least one municipal water treatment process. A time to check if your water is being tested for chromium....and if it is, if the source can be identified. Hats off to the Chemists who did the right thing and stuck with the problem until it could be identified and resolved. Robert Stockham writes an insightful article as to why it would NOT be a good idea to use the Great Lakes as a resevoir for the rest of North America. The plumbing should be repaired first. For example, how much water is leaking from a single +60-year-old pipeline that supplies New York City? Who knows? It hasn't been inspected since 1957. Engineers are afraid to inspect it.....because were the water to be turned-off for inspection of the 100-mile pipe, the pipeline could very well collapse. Consider the water-pipes in your area.... It's time to become proactive in making necessary upgrades before emergency measures are necessitated. Check it out. Apparently 1 man for every 100 women who get this horrid disease is the approximate ratio. At Camp Lejeune, reports are that this ratio is higher. The question is "Why?" Considerable discussion continues to determine if contaminated (toxic) water is indeed the underlying cause. If it happened there, it may very well be occurring elsewhere.
